Step One – OPEN YOUR INTERNET BROWSER​​  - CLICK IN BROWSER BAR

 

At the top of your browser is a long box where website addresses appear. This is called the address bar.

Click or tap inside it and type: chatgpt.com, then press Enter on a computer or Go on a phone or tablet.

Step Two – OPEN CHATGPT

 

Your browser should take you directly to the ChatGPT website.

Check that the website address is chatgpt.com before continuing.

Step Three - Privacy and Terms

 

ChatGPT's Privacy Policy and Terms of Use explain how personal information is handled and the terms that apply when using ChatGPT.

Links to these documents can be found on the ChatGPT website.

You may wish to read them before deciding whether to continue using the service.

Step Four – Type Your Question

 

Look towards the bottom of the ChatGPT page. You will see a long box where you can type. This is called the message box.

Click inside the box with your mouse. If you're using a phone or tablet, tap inside it with your finger.

You should now see a small flashing line inside the box. This means it is ready for you to type.

You don't need to use special words or know anything about AI. Type your question in the same way you would ask another person.

 

For example:

 

What is the weather usually like in Spain in October?

Step Five – Send Your Question

 

Once you have typed your question, look at the right-hand side of the message box. You will see a send button with an arrow.

Click the arrow with your mouse, or tap it with your finger if you're using a phone or tablet.

Your question will appear on the screen and ChatGPT will begin writing its reply underneath.

You may need to wait a few seconds while the answer appears.

You have now asked ChatGPT your first question!

 

Step Six – Keep the Conversation Going

 

What you type into ChatGPT is called a prompt.

Once ChatGPT has answered, you can type another prompt into the same message box and keep the conversation going.

For example, you could start by asking:

Can you help me plan a holiday to Spain?

When ChatGPT replies, you could then ask:

Where would you suggest for a quiet holiday?

Then you might ask:

What is the weather like there in October?

You don't need to start again each time. ChatGPT can use what you have already talked about to continue the conversation.

Try saying make it shorter, explain that more simply or give me another example.
